This is just a quick blog entry to point out that I’ve renamed one of my index pages to include categorization of Oracle Database 11g Database File System (DBFS) related topics. The newly-named page can be found at the following URL:
Kevin Closson Blog: DBFS / CFS / NFS / ASM Related Topics
The freshly indexed posts I’ve added to that page are:
- Oracle Database 11g Database File System (DBFS). Common DBFS Problems and Solutions. Part II.
- Oracle Database 11g Database File System (DBFS). Common DBFS Problems and Solutions. Part I.
- Oracle Database 11g Database File System (DBFS) Is Not A Popular Topic. Yet.
- Oracle Database File System (DBFS). It’s Not An “Exadata Feature.” – Part I.
Hi Kevin,
dbfs looks very good. What I wonder is: what can be the real use for it? The product heavily relies on fuse. This makes it a bit hard to implement on other platforms than Linux only.
It would have been a lot more usable when we could mount it as a nfs or samba share …
Am I missing something?
If only we could mount this on Solaris and windows hosts, the use of dbfs would be a no-brainer. Sure, now Oracle owns Solaris, they could add fuse to Solaris …. This still keeps other OSes in the cold….
best regards,
Ronald.
I cannot talk about futures but I suppose I can talk about the past. The reason NFS exports of DBFS has not always been (and not currently) supported is due to the fact that FUSE has not always supported it. However, according to the following link the Linux Kernel did pick up support for FUSE exports:
